A very successful two days for some of the band's solo pipers competing at the recent Argyllshire Gathering held in Oban on Wednesday 24th and Thursday 25th August.
The pipers compete in a variety of different disciplines according to their current solo grading in this historic competition that dates back to 1871.
Winning one of the most senior events on day one of the Gathering was Pipe Major Chris Armstrong taking 1st place in the Former Winners, March, Strathspey & Reel event, entitling him now to an invitation for the prestigious Glenfiddich competition held in Blair Castle in October. Also in the senior events, Glenn Brown took 4th place in coveted Gold Medal piobaireachd competition.
Day two gave pipers Gavin Ferguson and David Wilton a chance to shine taking a 2nd and a 5th place respectively in the 'B' Grade March competition.
Well done to all the prize winners and to the other pipers from the band competing who didn't quite make the prize lists this time, it's a great achievement even to be accepted to play. Focus for the solo players is now on the Northern Meeting Piping Competition next week in Inverness.
