British Championship

Over 140 bands descended on Annan in Dumfries and Galloway for the British Pipe Band Championships held on Saturday 30th June.

This was the third year in which the competition was hosted by the Royal Burgh.

ScottishPower continued with their recent success at the previous Scottish Championship, by again finishing in second place. The band was delighted with their strong showing in which they tied for first place in the Piping breakdown. In fact, all placings were an improvement on the last performance at Dumbarton which has boosted moral and confidence for the next outing.

The band played their new March, Strathspey & Reel set for the 2012 season – The Conundrum, Tulloch Castle and Pretty Marion which has received some great reviews. You can listen to it again below.

Well done must go to Pipers Adam Cairns and Ross Ferguson for making their Championship debut with the band.

The band would like to also congratulate Pipe Major Richard Parkes of Field Marshal Montgomery for winning his 50th Major Championship and 4th consecutive British Championship with the band.

The full Grade 1 prize winners were as follows:
1st Field Marshal Montgomery
2nd ScottishPower
3rd Inveraray & District
4th Boghall & Bathgate Caledonia
5th St Laurence O’Toole
6th Strathclyde Police
