The ScottishPower Pipe Band were delighted to be part of another first for Celtic Connections on Tuesday 26th January when they were invited to play with The Chieftains at the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall.
The Irish legends were joined on stage with some very special friends for a musical celebration that linked the music of Ireland with Mexico and the southern United States.
A host of top names appeared on stage including the US musician, producer and composer Ry Cooder and the Mexican five piece Los Cenzontles. Stepdancing pairing of Canadians Jon and Nathan Pilatzke and world champion Irish dancer Cara Butler added some great flare to the evening. Galicia's star bagpiper and flautist Carlos Nunez also performed on the night, highlighting why he is in such demand at festivals around the world.
The shows main theme was about the story of the San Patricios, the battalion of mostly Irish and Scots who deserted their posts to join the Mexicans fighting against the Americans in the 1840s. The ScottishPower Pipe Band made it's appearance in the second half to the fitting tune 'March to Battle' before returning for the main encore piece, the Breton tune 'An Dro'
The band were delighted to have been chosen to play with such legends, and to a sell out audience!
