The last competition of the 2014 season brought a sad and poignant moment for the ScottishPower Pipe Band as it was the last ever performance for Leading Drummer Barry Wilson.
Barry has decided to step down from the position which he took up in 2002 and retire completely from pipe band drumming.
The name Barry Wilson needs no introduction to pipe band musicians throughout the world and it was evident that he was destined for the very top when he initially lifted his first set of sticks back in 1982. Barry progressed through the grades playing in various local bands and came into his own when he joined the Shotts and Dykehead Caledonia Drum Corp under the legendary Jim Kilpatrick MBE. It was there he went onto win:
24 Grade 1 Pipe Band Championships, including 3 World Pipe Band Championships. 40 Major Drum Corp Championships with 11 of those been won consecutively. On the Solo Drumming platform he himself has proved his worth winning the World Solo Drumming Championship no less than 4 times.
Pipe Major Chris Armstrong, the Band Committee and full membership would like to thank Barry very much for his commitment and support over the years and wish him, his wife Kineta and son Charlie all the very best for the future. Cheers Baz!
