On Tuesday the 11th August, at the Royal Concert Hall Glasgow, four members of ScottishPower Pipe Band competed at the annual International Quartet Competition as part of Glasgow’s PipingLive! Festival 2009.

Defending their success in winning the title in 2008, Pipe Major Chris Armstrong, Keith Bowes, Alasdair Henderson and Alasdair MacKenzie represented the band in the competition. Each quartet was required to play a March, Strathspey and Reel set and a Medley set. Six quartets played in the competition, with ScottishPower Pipe Band being the only Scottish representative.
Other bands represented included Simon Fraser University of Canada, Manawatu of New Zealand, Field Marshall Montgomery of Northern Ireland, The Australian Highlanders, and Ireland’s St Laurence O’Toole Pipe Band. ScottishPower quartet played exceptionally well and successfully defended their 2008 win by being crowned the winners in 2009.
