A Piping Live favourite the International Quartet Competition has become one of the highlights of the week.
Nine top grade pipe bands from across the globe send four of their top pipers to compete in this competition. What is different about this event is that there are ten hidden judges in the audience who decide who will lift the title.
The event is always a must see contest leading up to the World Pipe Band Championships and was held this year in the New Athenaeum at The Royal Conservatoire of Scotland on Tuesday 13th August.
ScottishPower Pipe Band won the event with near unanimous first placings across the board against quartets from Dowco Triumph Street Pipe Band, 78th Highlanders (Halifax Citadel), Vale of Atholl Pipe Band, Toronto Police Pipe Band, Greater Glasgow Police Scotland Pipe Band, St Laurence O’Toole Pipe Band, Canterbury Caledonia Society Pipe Band and Manawatu Scottish Pipe Band.
Pictured above in the spotlight are (left to right) Pipe Major Chris Armstrong, Gavin Ferguson, Jason Briscoe and David Wilton, who had to play both a March, Strathspey and Reel and Medley Selection to scoop first prize. Well done guys!
