ScottishPower Makes an Impressive Showing at London

The Scottish Piping Society of London's annual competition took place this year on November 7th. While it is the traditional end of the solo competitors calendar, ScottishPower soloists were in fine form.

Of particular note were that members of the band dominated the B grade, with Derek Midgley winning the Angus Nicol Award for the overall B grade prize.

First, in the Gillies Cup Piobaireachd for Grade A or higher, Glenn Brown who took 5th and also a 2nd the the Flora Beaton Hornpipe and Jig. In the B Grade Derek Midgley placed 2nd in the John Roe Plate for Piobaireachd. In the London Scottish Hodden Grey B Grade MSR, Sylvain Hamon took 1st place, with Derek Midgley, Craig Muirhead, and Keith Bowes taking 3rd, 4th, and 5th, respectively. In the B grade Hugh MacMillan Trophy Hornpipe and Jig, Derek Midgley took 1st and Sylvain Hamon placed 2nd.

In the C Grade National Piping Centre Piobaireachd Trophy Craig Muirhead placed 3rd, rounding out an excellent day for the ScottishPower soloists. As this is the conclusion of the solo season, pipers in the band are now able to take a much-needed break before next year.
