The World Pipe Band Championships 2012

15/08/2012

ScottishPower achieved their highest ever band position at the World Pipe Band Championships under the current leadership of Pipe Major Chris Armstrong and Leading Drummer Barry Wilson on Saturday 11th August.

The delight and satisfaction when the band’s name was called out in 2nd place was a true reward for all the hard work and effort that the band had put in over the preceding weeks and months leading up to this huge event held in glorious weather conditions on Glasgow Green.

Check out our photos from the day!

The band’s first performance of the day was in the March, Strathspey & Reel Section, where they were drawn 12th to play out of the 14 bands that made the Grade 1 final. The Number 2 set was drawn on the line – Lord Alexander Kennedy, Blair Drummond & John Morrison Of Assynt House.

The second event was the Medley Section and again playing in the same position in the draw the band played their Battle of Waterloo Medley.

Thanks must go to the BBC for supporting this event and allowing it to be streamed live over the internet on the day and for recording it to broadcast on their Piping radio programme - Pipeline. The band has a huge fan base the world over and this gives them all a chance to hear us play.

The final Grade 1 results were as follows:

1st Field Marshall Montgomery
2nd ScottishPower
3rd Simon Fraser University
4th Boghall & Bathgate Caledonia
5th St Laurance O Toole
6th Strathclyde Police
Best Drum Corp Overall - Boghall & Bathgate Caledonia

Congratulations must go to Field Marshall Montgomery on their win and to all the other bands that took part on the day and of course to the 50,000 spectators that turned out to hear the bands and support the event.
