The World Solo Drumming Championships took place on the 23rd October 2010 at Glasgow Caledonian University where ScottishPower players were out in numbers to compete.
A field of around 90 drummers took part in the Adult group from a variety of countries as far afield as New Zealand and Canada. Several ScottishPower players narrowly missed out on Semi-Final qualifying spots by only the smallest of margins highlighting the strength within the corps these days. Emerging as Champion however, for the record breaking 4th year in a row, was Drum Sergeant Barry Wilson who cemented his dominance of this event in the last few years.
Not to be outdone was new recruit to the Drum Corps, Scott MacKenzie, who took first place in the Juvenile Section 3 category for Under 18’s after only a matter of weeks in the corps thus rounding off a successful day for the ScottishPower drummers.
Thanks must also go to PM Chris Armstrong, Russell Weir, Gavin MacPherson and Neil Johnstone from the band’s pipe corps who provided the accompaniment for the drummers on the day.
