Whitelee Windfarm

27/05/2009

On the 20th May 2009, ScottishPower Pipe Band joined ScottishPower's Chairman Ignacio Galán and Scotland's First Minister Alex Salmond MSP, to celebrate the completion of ScottishPower Renewables' Whitelee Windfarm, Europe's largest onshore wind power project.

The initial 140 turbines will be capable of producing enough electricity to power over 180,000 homes; the equivalent of displacing 500,000 tonnes of CO² a year. Further proposals have been accepted by the Scottish Government to extend the Windfarm further; enough to power an additional 70,000 homes.

Commenting on the day, Scotland's First Minister Alex Salmond said:

"Whitelee in its current form is already flying the flag for onshore wind power in Europe. It has the infrastructure, the expertise and the capacity to continue to develop in the future. The benefits of this investment go beyond East Renfrewshire and beyond our real economy. It is an investment in Scotland's potential and ambition to lead the clean, green energy revolution."

The members were delighted to represent the company at such a prestigious event for ScottishPower.
