World Championships – Top 3 slot gained

The World Pipe Band Championships returned to Glasgow Green for a weekend of top-flight competition on Saturday 17th and Sunday 18th August. 225 bands from all over the world attended the new 2 day format being trailed by the RSPBA for the first time.

For the Grade 1 bands entered, a March, Strathspey & Reel and Medley Selection had to be played in two separate qualifying heats on the Saturday. The top six from each heat then played their other March, Strathspey & Reel and Medley Selection in the final on the Sunday.

BBC Scotland was again on the field recording the performances and streaming them live over the internet. On national radio too the performances were aired on the Saturday evening on BBC Scotland’s piping programme Pipeline.

These mediums are always great for our overseas fans and those who couldn’t make it along themselves to cheer us on! Some great comments, feedback and messages came in on the band’s Facebook and Twitter accounts from all over the world, so thanks to everyone who got in touch.

Congratulations to the winners and new World Champions - Field Marshall Montgomery Pipe band, the Grade 1 Final Top 6 was as follows:
